These are companies that slaughter and process cattle. They are responsible to develop and execute purchasing policies to ensure that the beef that comes from their direct and indirect suppliers has no association with farms that promote deforestation.
Radar Verde identified 176 meat-packing facilities belonging to 133 companies located in the Brazilian Amazon by December 2022 – Data collected by “Homem e o Meio Ambiente da Amazônia” Institute (Imazon) from federal inspection systems (SIFs) and state inspection systems (SIEs). According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (“IBGE”), these companies corresponded to approximately 96% of slaughter in the Amazon Rainforest in 2022.
