Presentation of Results

Presentation of Results – Meatpacking Companies

The Radar Verde results for each meatpacking company are presented in a list containing the following columns (Table 6):

  1. Company name in alphabetical order.

  2. Level of Exposure to Deforestation Risk (hectares). For companies with multiple meatpacking plants in the region, the score will correspond to the sum of the areas exposed to deforestation risk within the sourcing regions of all plants.

  3. Level of Supply Chain Control for Direct Supplier Farms – Assesses the control commitment regarding the last farm through which the animal passes before slaughter.

  4. Level of Supply Chain Control for Indirect Supplier Farms – Assesses the control commitment regarding the farms through which the animal passes from birth until it reaches the last farm.

  5. Level of Commitment Against Deforestation (final score) – This is the average score that assesses the level of control across the entire supply chain, including direct and indirect suppliers, while also considering the type of commitment, or level of ambition, against deforestation adopted by the company—whether it allows legal deforestation or opposes all forms of deforestation, both legal and illegal. Each company will be assigned a Deforestation Commitment Score category by multiplying the Supply Chain Control Score by the ambition level of its policy. The Supply Chain Control Score will be multiplied by 1.0 for companies that adopt policies prohibiting the purchase of animals from farms associated with illegal deforestation in any period or with legal deforestation carried out from 2023 onward. For companies whose commitment is limited to excluding suppliers involved only in illegal deforestation, a multiplier of 0.8 will be applied.

Radar Verde will publish the results obtained through the company’s response to the questionnaire or through the verification of public data, regardless of the company’s consent.

Presentation of Results – Retailers

The Radar Verde results for each retail company are presented in a list containing the following columns:

  1. Company name: Companies will be presented in order of revenue, according to the ABRAS ranking.

  2. Whether or not the company shares additional information (yes or no).

  3. Level of Supply Chain Control for Direct Supplier Farms score related to the control of direct supplying farms – Numerical Supply Chain Control Score assigned to companies based on assessments of official communication channels, public data, and responses to the questionnaires submitted.

  4. Level of Supply Chain Control for Indirect Supplier Farms score related to the control of indirect supplying farms – Numerical Supply Chain Control Score assigned to companies based on assessments of their official communication channels, public data, and responses to the questionnaires submitted.

  5. Engagement Score – score related to the company’s engagement efforts to promote practices aligned with ending total deforestation, both legal and illegal, among suppliers, consumers, and the brands sold – Numerical score assigned based on the assessment of companies’ official communication channels, public data, and responses to the questionnaires submitted.

  6. Final Level of Supply Chain Control – the company’s overall score. Color-coded category and overall numerical score.

Radar Verde will publish the results obtained from companies’ responses to the questionnaires and, additionally, from the verification of public data made available on their institutional websites, regardless of the consent of the companies assessed. For the retail sector, the Radar Verde scoring system assesses companies’ commitment to combating deforestation through two complementary dimensions: the Level of Supply Chain Control and the Engagement Score. The maximum score for each indicator is 100 points.

In the assessment, for the composition of the final score, the Level of Supply Chain Control will have a weight of 98%, of which 18% refers to Policy and 80% to Implementation, while the Engagement Score will account for 2% of the final score. In the results, the higher the final score, the greater the company’s effectiveness in eliminating deforestation from its supplier chain.

Depending on the effectiveness of the environmental policy implemented by the companies, they may present different levels of impact in terms of the policy’s actual capacity to promote change and prevent deforestation in their supplier chains. The Transformative Level corresponds to effectiveness above 90 points and indicates that the policy generates structural changes, redefines paradigms, and has lasting effects. The Intermediate Level corresponds to effectiveness from 50 to 89 points and indicates that the policy is successful but still requires adjustments to achieve maximum impact. The Basic Level corresponds to effectiveness from 30 to 49 points and indicates that the company’s policy has functional implementation, but with modest results and limited scope. Finally, the Initial Level corresponds to effectiveness from 0 to 29 points, meaning that the company’s policy is in the testing phase, has significant shortcomings, or lacks structure.
